The Citizens who must apply for the Resident NIE are those who, coming from a member country of the EU, from any state that is part of the Agreement on the EEA or from Switzerland, are going to reside in Spanish territory for a period of more than three months. These individuals are required to request their registration in the Central Registry of Foreigners.
The Resident NIE is the document that accredits the registration of the foreign citizen, and by obtaining it, foreigners will be able to operate legally in Spain in compliance with current legislation.
